I would recommend going to a detox facility, residential inpatient rehab, possibly outpatient groups, and 12 step recovery in addition to having a therapist and psychiatrist to support you through getting sober and maintaining sobriety. There are psychiatrists who are very knowledgeable about addiction, and there are others who are less so. Psychiatrists who are Board Certified in Addiction Psychiatry are the best bet, but there are other physicians who are Board Certified in Addiction Medicine who are equally competent. The American Society of Addiction Medicine and the American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry websites (asam.org and aaap.org) can give you names of doctors in your area.
