No. Neurologists don’t treat back pain. You would start with your primary care doctor. Back pain is the 4th most common complaint to a primary care doctor. Most primary care docs are well trained to treat back pain, or to refer you to the appropriate specialist. If you don’t have any symptoms except back pain, that would be treated with physical therapy, core strengthening, weight loss, chiropractics, stopping smoking, interventional pain management, and in very rare and very specific conditions, surgery.
I would seek out your Primary Care Physician for guidance.
Back pain is a very common complaint.
Start with discussing it with your PCP.
if imaging is warranted, he will start you off.
based on findings, you may need a referral to a neurosurgeon.
Neurologists typically do not manage low back pain
Back pain has many reasons. Seeing your primary care is a reasonable first step. If the back pain is associated with leg pain or sciatica, an MRI can be considered and should MRI show any pathology, you can be referred to a neurosurgeon. Hope this helps.
No, you should not see a neurologist for back pain. Start by seeing your,r primary care physician. Most back pain is self-limited and resolves with minor or no specific treatment.
Depending on what is going on chiropractors not only help back pain but their results are longer lasting, and at a lower cost than neuro with no drugs, surgeries or shots. Now some people may need the neuro approach but it never hurts to check out a chiropractor 1st. In fact research shows that people who see a chiro 1st, 85% don't end up in a neuro office.
Usually a chiropractic treatment is your best first intervention. A Neurologist is helpful for diagnosis of back pain, a chiropractor can do treatment
