Should rectal polyps be removed?

I was diagnosed with rectal polyps. Is it serious? Should rectal polyps be removed?

Depends on the size:
Polyps larger than 5 mm should be removed.
Rectal polyps smaller than 5 , the endoscopist may leave it if it looks benign ( appearance of a type called hyperplastic polyp, has no cancer risk, even if left alone)
Yes they need to be examined and may need biopsy with possible excision.
Rectal polyps should be removed and analyzed by pathology to categorize them to see if they are pre-cancerous. If they are precancerous a colonoscopy should be done to assess the rest of the colon for polyps.
In general, rectal polyps should be removed. The seriousness depends on the size and type of polyp. Polyps that have precancerous potential like adenomas should be removed. Hyperplastic polyps don't have the same potential.
Yes.
Typically yes but you should review with your gastroenterologist.
It depends on what kind of polyps they are. If they are hyperplastic, then they do not need to be removed. If they are any type of adenoma, then they should be removed. You need to find out what the pathology is of the rectal polyps.
