Respiratory Therapist Questions Smoke inhalation

Smoke inhalation

Two nights ago I turned on the wrong burner on my oven and burned some plastic containers. There was a lot of smoke. I cleared it as quickly as a could and had to continue making dinner. The next day I started to develop a minor cough and a headache. The coughing isn’t long and drawn out, but it feels like a cough I get when I get bronchitis. This morning the urge to cough is a bit more often, the headache is still there, and my voice is hoarse. Am I ok to just keep healing at home or do I need to go to urgent care?

Start taking your albuterol and schedule an appointment to see your pulmonary or primary care doctor. If the coughing is not getting better you might need to get steroids. Depends on how much smoke inhalation you were exposed to, specially plastic. It is very toxic and taking that you are an asthmatic it has definitely made a huge irritation to your lungs. If you have Symbicort or Spiriva I would highly recommend to start using them as well.
Because you have an asthma history, I would recommend getting back on your asthma treatment plan. I would see a doctor if issues persist
