Surgery & Ashwagandha

Hello, I took ashwagandha a week before acl surgery. Is stopping a week too little?

Ashwagandha is not FDA approved medicine, and there are no based on scientific evidence recommendations. It could potentially interact with sedatives and antihypertensives as well as thyroid function. But considered safe for anesthesia, despite the fact that some recommend holding it for 2 weeks preop. My personal opinion is that it is safe for your ACL repair and should not be a problem periop, especially after 1 week after stopping it.
A week should be fine. The data to support most of the herbal/natural medications impacting surgery and/or anesthesia are generally quite weak overall. I would not anticipate your ashwagandha use impacting anything about your surgical course.
