Trouble urinating - med side effects or not?

I've been having difficulty urinating for several years (difficulty starting, lots of dribbling afterward). I went to a doctor suspecting that it could because of my medication (venlafaxine 150, lamotrigine 100). He agreed that it's likely my meds but sent me for a PSA blood test which came back normal.

He told me there is a med that can counteract the side-effects, but that I can't take it while on both venlafaxine and lamotrigine, and we're both wary of changing them up too much.

First we tried staggering my venlafaxine dose to 75 in the morning and 75 in the evening, but this had no effect. Three days ago I started only taking 75 per day. I have been having some difficulty coping on the staggered dose, and I'm worried that half a dose won't be enough to help with my depression.

If the lower dose has no effect, does this mean that any dose will cause the side-effects or could it mean that it isn't the meds at all? Since my PSA was normal I'm at a loss as to what else it could be.

Medication side effects are always possible. I would want to rule out other urologic-related conditions. PSA or prostrate at your age is unlikely to be an issue. Recommend you see a urologist to rule out a urethral stricture or another congenital type of obstructing the process. If you have had symptoms for 10 years unlikely to be anything serious. Good luck!
