What are the long-term effects on children always typing on the computer?

My 11 year old son is on the computer all day for school and gets hand cramps at night. What are the long-term effects on children always typing on the computer?

To date, there is no good evidence that prolonged computer use causes long-term problems in any age group.

There is nothing in the literature to lead us to believe that excessive computer use leads to permanent damage to the hands. The links between conditions such as carpal tunnel syndrome and computer use is indeterminate. That being said, if your son is having cramps a night, he may benefit from decreasing his computer time and or taking 5 minute breaks every 30-60 minutes.
