Advil and Tylenol.
If you can take over the counter Motrin or Ibuprofen, those tend to give good pain relief after a root canal therapy. Ibuprofen acts as both a pain reliever and also an anti-inflammatory.
Sorry to hear that, I would take either Tylenol or Motrin. If the pain didn’t go away within a few days then contact the dentist where you got the root canal done.
Generally, a good anti-inflammatory like Ibuprofen is best. If you have any kidney disease or significant gastric issues you should avoid this. Tylenol will help but it does not reduce inflammation. If you have any liver disease you should avoid Tylenol. In the past narcotics were routinely used however due to an epidemic of deadly addictions the dental community has steered away from this. Avoid using a heating pad as it will help the infection increase rapidly.
Over-the-counter acetaminophen or ibuprofen are the recommended medications following dental procedures when there is pain. Furthermore, it is not uncommon for there to be some pain following the completion of a root canal treatment and usually begins to subside with 24-48 hours.
Call your dentist to be seen. Often the bite has to be adjusted. Or get a referral to an endodontist (root canal specialist). Endodontists deal with pain daily. Good Luck.
You can take 400 mg Ibuprofen with 500mg Tylenol every 4-6 hours.
Thanks for contacting me, and I'm sorry that you are experiencing some pain. If you don't have any kidney and liver problems, you can alternate between Tylenol 500 mg and Ibuprofen 600 mg, over the counter, every 4-6 hours. That combination is very effective to relieve pain.
Ask your physician if you are able to take Tylenol or ibuprofen. I hope this helps.
Hello, you can take Advil or any anti inflammatory NSAID. That being said, a root canal removes the nerve from your tooth. I would double check with your provider that the procedure went as expected and would recommend you get in for a follow-up appointment.
If you are able to take something like ibuprofen, take 2 over-the-counter ibuprofen 200 mg (Motrin IB, Advil, etc) with 1 extra-strength Tylenol, every 4-6 hours. Of course, if you don't need as much, take less. Also, fyi, as an alternative, recently "they" came out with a combination medication of Advil with Tylenol. Take that according to the directions on the box. Best bet is always talk to your dentist or whoever did the root canal.
If you are able to take ibuprofen, I suggest taking 600 mg of ibuprofen every 8 hours for pain.
Ibuprofen works best for me.
It's not unusual for a tooth to be tender or sore for a few days after a root canal. You can take some ibuprofen or Tylenol to alleviate the pain. If the pain lasts more than a few days, you should contact your dentist and let them know.
