Hi! Swelling can last for an extended period of time to the foot or ankle. In general, ways to reduce swelling would be to ice, elevate, or compression socks/ace-bandage.
It depends on why the ankle is swollen. Is it painful? Did you have a sprain? Swollen ankles can be from simple venous insufficiency to things as complicated as Congestive Heart Failure. So it is very important you have the situation checked by a medical professional before you start treating the problem
Swelling will usually take time to resolve. The cause of the swelling also needs to be determined. I recommend you make an appointment with a foot and ankle surgeon (podiatrist) for evaluation and further work up.
