Look at it from an anatomical point of view. And infected tooth is in your head/skull and is inches from your brain. That should answer your question.
An untreated tooth infection is very dangerous! It can infect and poison your whole body. The poison & toxins that are released from the infection can get into your bloodstream and find their way to your heart kidneys lungs and other organs. This can cause severe consequences and health threats. Dont wait until it hurts because the infection will grow, spread and take up residence in your body! An upper tooth infection can move very quickly to the eye, sinus and on to the brain where it can set up serious infection and even kill you! Please don't take chances with your health and life. See a dentist right away and get any tooth infection treated asap Your life is worth it

Like most thing with our body, they tend to get worse and not better. Best to go see a dentist and get accurate information.
It can develop into more severe infection
A dental infection left untreated can certainly spread to other areas of the body causing more significant health issues resulting in hospitalization or, in some extreme cases, sepsis and death.
It can lead to a systemic infection and/or a life-threatening infection within the head/neck and brain.
YOU COULD DEVELOP A BAD SYSTEMIC INFECTION AND THE INFECTION COULD SPREAD TO OTHER TEETH.
If an infected tooth is left untreated, the infection can run to your heart and you could die from the infection
A tooth infection left untreated can result it serious complications. These complications include pain, swelling, spread of infection, and can even cause death. A condition known as Ludwig's Angina can occur which is defined by swelling that spreads to the fascial space underneath the mandible. If Ludwig's Angina is treated quickly it can compromise a patient's ability to breath and ultimately cause death. Dental infections are serious and need to be treated as soon as possible!
