Radiologist Questions Mri

What can i expect after having an MRI?

I suffer with migraines, and am having an MRI done next week to see if there is an underlying health issue causing them. I have never had one before. What can I expect after having an MRI?

5% patients undergoing MRI experience claustrophobia during the scanning process. If the patient has an implant/ prosthesis then it might be damaged by the high magnetic field in the scan room. Usually no physical effect occurs after a routine MRI exam
There will be no after effects following the MRI scan.
Sorry for the late reply. MRI scans have no after effects. The only thing is noise during the scan. Some MRI scans to work up migraines may require the use of an intravenous contrast agent. However, these contrast agents are much less nephrotoxic then CT contrast agents. It is unusual to have any side effects after either non contrast or contrast enhanced MRI scans.
Nothing. Most are normal for your condition.
Prior to the study, you will be screened for anything that might be a contraindication to M R I, such as metal in your body or a device like a pacemaker. You will be placed on your back on the MRI table and a “head coil,” which basically looks and feels like a football helmet, will be placed. The table will move and you will be placed in the center of the “tube.” You will then here a series of knocking and then, quite frankly, a loud rhythmic rattling, growling, grinding type of noise. Exam should take probably 20 minutes or so. The room will be cold. If you have no contraindications to the exam, you should do fine.

Thank you and all the best.
Should have no problems if without contrast. With contrast reactions are rare. Should talk to technologist or radiologist about potential complications.
