“What causes discoloration and itching of nails?”
What could make a person's fingernails become discolored and itchy? Do I have to see a doctor about this? I'm also 37 years old, and a female.

We used to say, if every question in a review of systems was positive, to ask if the fingernails itch. If a person said yes, they were clearly histrionic or hypochondriacs. Discoloration of the nails could be caused by multiple things. Most commonly fungus or trauma. But rarely, melanoma under the nails can appear as a discoloration. See your doctor for a more definitive evaluation.
