I am a 28 year old male and my tonsils are enlarged. What causes enlarged tonsils?

Tonsils often become enlarged after infections, such as strep throat or mono, or related to other inflammation.
Multiple things can cause enlarged tonsils . Viruses such as mono, infection , cancer
There isn't any particular problem that would cause tonsillar enlargement. However if the change has been rather sudden, asymmetric and painful I would want to seek medical
