What causes tooth abscess?

I have recently been diagnosed with a bad tooth abscess. What could have caused this? I would like to know the possible cause to prevent this in the future.

Usually decay but an abcess can be caused by trauma as well, including orthodontic therapy.
Tooth abscess occurs in a few ways. Some how a tooth may have been injured. Sports, childhood accidents. car accidents can injure a tooth. Some times a tooth just becomes non-vital. Most causes of tooth abscess is failure to do correct flossing and brushing. Most teeth with
cavities do not start to hurt until the decay reaches the tooth chamber. The tooth chamber contains a nerve, artery and vein. The tooth chamber is located in the center of each tooth.
At the bottom of the chamber the nerve, artery and vein become become smaller and enter the root or roots of each tooth and at the tip of each root the nerve artery and vein exit and merge with the larger vessles below the lower roots and above the upper roots. These vessels can carry bacteria and toxins to all parts of your body
and organ systems. This is how your vascular system becomes inflamed and possibly causes diseases in our organs. While people are carrying on their own lives. The bacteria and their toxic waste are irritating our blood vessels and quietly causing problems in our organs. As we get older some people suffer from DIABETES II, UNCONTROLLED HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE, HIGH BLOOD SUGAR SUGAR LEVELS, LUNG PROBLEMS, HEART PROBLEMS, BLOOD CANCERS, and ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE TO NAME A FEW PROBLEMS. I wrote an article on "FLOSS AND BRUSH YOUR TEETH AS IF YOUR LIFE DEPENDS ON IT---BECAUSE IT DOES.

You are wise to want to take care of your teeth. Plaque is a sticky material that forms on our teeth each day. If it is not removed by flossing each day, from the food particles. the bacteria, your immune system's fighting cells, the dead bacteria and fighting cells, their toxic wastes irritate your gums and attack your ATTACHED GINGIVA. Your ATTACHED GINGIVA prevents plaque and the rest of the debris from attacking and disolving your membranes and supporting bone structure of each tooth. Once the ATTACHED GINGIVA is destroyed your immune system is fighting but if you get the flu, or some other illness, areas where the attached is gone can open up like a zipper. The plaque still forms and the rotting food particles, bacteria, and debris now hardened is below the gum line and CAN'T be removed by flossing and brushing.
You need to see your dentist at regular visits. If you are not flossing and brushing your teeth correctly you need to see your dentist more often.
If you do not floss correctly daily, YOU WILL LOSE YOUR TEETH. Gum disease and its progression is different for each person. The only fact is.....IF YOU DON'T FLOSS DAILY CORRECTLY. YOU WILL LOSE YOUR TEETH. IT WILL HAPPEN. While you are neglecting your teeth, you will have a bad taste in your mouth. You may feel sick to your stomach. You teeth may hurt and you may have to have teeth extracted. You should make regular dental checkups.

You may be surprised but there are millions of people who are doing just that. All you have to do is floss and brush correctly. We eat every day. We put food and drink in our mouths constantly. Even correct brushing will not remove the tartar ( that hardened mass of plaque, rotting food particles, dead bacteria and fighting cells, toxic wastes, calcium from your saliva, plus the plaque, living bacteria and fighting cells and their toxic waste on tartar's surface that are between your teeth. Finger flossing is the best and cheapest way to floss. The wider teflon floss is the best. OUR OFFICE has seen patients who use those plastic flossing devices. Plastic flossing devices should be used for front teeth only! Those plastic flossers do not floss side and back teeth correctly. Patients have damage to RESTORATIONS and DECAY on side and back teeth. Teeth located on the sides and back teeth have to be finger flossed, or you can use those little brushes. If you use the brushes you have to insert these brushes from the cheek side and you should insert the brushes from your tongue(lingual) area and palate side to make sure you remove the debris.

Rinsing your mouth with warm salt water then using a tongue cleaner. rinsing your mouth and gargling with salt water. I do like sonic water IRRIGATORS with water reservoirs. You can use water or salt water to irrigate all around your teeth at the gum line. These sonic IRRIGATORS can be used for patients who have problems with flossing. The most important fact is: YOU HAVE TO FLOSS AND BRUSH YOUR TEETH. IF YOU TAKE CARE OF YOUR TEETH YOUR TEETH
YOUR TEETH WILL LAST AS LONG AS YOU LIVE!

Bacteria got into the nerve canal of the tooth and as the nerve dies, gases build up inside the tooth. They have no place to go but out through the only opening in the tooth which is the end of the root. As it drains it eats away at the bone and create a pool of infection that over time usually shows up as a dark circle on an x-ray.
The infection into the nerve is usually caused by trauma to the tooth that doesn’t break it (one time hit or continued grinding or clenching), a deep cavity that is into or at least close to the nerve, or an old filling (usually amalgam/silver) that has led to cracks in the tooth.
Best way to prevent it is to see you Dental team regularly so they can monitor them before they break or before a cavity gets deep. At home you can prevent the problem by flossing before brushing 1-2x a day, using an electric toothbrush twice a day using fluoride based toothpaste and then finish with a good anti bacterial, alcohol free mouth rinse.
Tooth abscesses are caused by germs. Unfortunately, they happen without warning usually and you cannot predict or prevent them.
Bluetooth is a marvelous Little Engine but sits in a socket surrounded by a shock absorber of a membrane to protect it from trauma it has a nerve and blood supply it also has a hardened shell made of enamel covered by Denton which protects the nerve itself. Abscesses occur when excessive amount of bacteria are allowed to accumulate without being brushed effectively by the patient themselves and microscopic invasions of this bacteria cause of Decay and destruction of the enamel Matrix itself and spreads to the nerve itself and then causes the abscess which spews out the end of the route and swells the face or spreads to the heart causing a bacteremia.
Tooth abscesses are usually caused by germs that get deep into the pulp of a tooth. When that happens a battle begins between the germ and the immune system. The stronger of the two wins. If it's the germ, then the inside of the tooth becomes a breeding ground for the germ which escape through the tiny hole at the tip of the root where the nerves and blood vessels once entered. The immune system then comes in to fight this infection which has now extended to the bone. Odds are that the germ wins that battle also. If you don't treat it, it will get into your blood stream and set up infections elsewhere like in your brain or heart. Best to get it treated by a trained professional ASAP.
Please see your dentist regularly. If you are diagnosed with cavities, please take care of them to prevent future damage and abscess. An untreated vanity leads to dental tooth abscess.
