What do I do?

I'm constipated and can't use the bathroom. I did a little yesterday but that was all, and there was pus in it. It doesn't hurt to go, it's just that I can't. What do I do?

Is this a new problem, or is it something you have always had? If it is new, we worry about a blockage. If it is longstanding, it would suggest a "lazy colon" or a type of irritable bowel syndrome with predominant constipation. Are you older than 45? If so, you would be a candidate for a colonoscopy. You are probably passing mucus and not pus. Try a gentle laxative such as miralax (available without a prescription). Physical activity, fiber in diet, and drinking enough fluids will help in the long run. If the problem persists, you should see your doctor. There are medications to help this problem once an obstruction has been ruled out.
Exercise, drink a lot of water, increase fiber like salads, fruits, grain, cereal, consume prunes and apricots. If it does not work, then you needs medications by a GI specialist.
You’re very young and this is not something that you can treat by yourself. Pus is never a good sign, and so you should be examined by a physician.
Try taking an enema or a strong laxative like milk of magnesia
iF YOU ARE 100% CERTAIN THERE WAS "PUS" IN THE STOOL, THEN YOU HAVE AN INFECTION (OR INFLAMMATION) IN OR CONNECTED WITH THE LARGE BOWEL/RECTUM (DIVERTICULITIS IS ONE EXAMPLE). IF YOU TRY A GOOD LAXATIVE (LIKE MILK OF MAGNESIA, FOR EXAMPLE) AND YOU ARE NOT ABLE TO GO, THEN YOU NEED TO GO TO THE LOCAL ER FOR FURTHER EVALUATION.
If you noticed pus, then it's best to get evaluated by a doctor asap. You may have an infection which may need treatment and also will be able to get medication to help relieve constipation.

The 'pus" is probably mucus. Take more fiber, eat prunes and use laxatives such as Miralax and dulcolax
You should reach out to your physician for guidance. While constipation can be managed, it is important that you be evaluated by a specialist to ensure that nothing serious is going on that is causing you to be constipated.
