Warm salt water will bring it to a head. If open, it will help it drain and it usually feels better.
It will do nothing to cure it. If your tooth is abscessed, it either needs to be extracted or root canaled. The salt water will do nothing to cure it.
Nothing. Go to the dentist and they will diagnose the problem and recommend any options you have to resolve the problem.
Dear Reader,
Salt water doesn't do much of anything for an abscess.  If your gums are swollen, it may cause them to shrink a little.  An abscess in an infection.  Only two options:  root canal and restoration to save the tooth, or remove it and hopefully replace it.  Please talk to your dentist or a dentist if you don't have one.  I literally saved the life of three patients with abscesses who were hours away from dying. Fortunately these were three cases out of a thousand.  Forget about salt water and get treatment.
Hope this helps.Steven Chamish, DDS, FAGD,FIOCI

It does nothing for the abscess which is an inflammatory infection and should be treated with antibiotics while removing the cause for the abscess.
Walt water rinses draws out inflammation/ swelling in your gums in a process known as osmosis. Salt also has antibacterial properties.
Salt water rinses will be helpful but will not cure the problem. Please visit your dentist to treat the issue.
Salt water won't do much for an abscessed tooth except to cleanse the exterior surface of the tooth and gums. The only way to directly address the abscess is to either get a root canal or an extraction.
