Relieves pressure off the nervous system, therefore removing pain and other symptoms and promote health.
An adjustment helps facilitate improved nerve function to restore structural integrity. The chiropractor simply adjusts the alignment of the spine with one of many techniques.
The purpose of the chiropractic adjustment is to remove pressure on the spinal nerve that is being impinged by a fixated or subluxated vertebra. The adjustment sets the vertebra into motion and reduces pressure in the spine. Depending on which area of the spine is being adjusted, this can have profound effects on the nervous system and the body as a whole. For instance, if the first vertebra in the spine is being adjusted, called the atlas, the flow of energy to the brain and through the spinal cord will be stimulated which affects the entire spine and the function of the nervous system. The goal is to maintain balance or homeostasis and a return to normal and optimal function.
Pressure is released and the spinal bones are aligned better for optimal function with body movement.
During an adjustment, the joints of the spine are aligned and balanced, periarticular adhesions are broken, muscles are stretched, and tension on the nerves is equalized.
