A healthy, well-balanced diet and healthy lifestyle -- no smoking. A multivitamin with zinc will also help.
After stitches or sutures are removed, the scar still will appear red and raised. Scars can take up to a full year to fully mature. I recommend my patients use silicone scar gels or strips to help compress and hydrate the scar so it will fade and flatten sooner. There are also lasers that can help to hasten scar maturation.
Keep the wound dry.
Leave them alone!!!
Avoid putting pressure or tension on the wound or surgical incision that is healing; also increase your protein intake. The stitches bring the wound edges together so the body can heal, so depending where the incision is on your body, try to avoid any movements that may pull the incision apart, until you have a follow up with your surgeon. However if the incision is around a joint area, you do not want to avoid moving the join completely because it can lead to a "frozen joint"; so better to check with your surgeon.
You mainly, that is, your body’s healing capabilities. Are you obese? Was the surgery elective or emergent? You have to take vitamins. Best to consult a Functional Medicine Doctor.
