Hello Madam,

Sorry to hear about you or your loved one suffering from panic attacks. As I am a licensed psychologist and not a psychiatrist, I am not able to advise you regarding medicines. You may want to contact your physician or your psychiatrist and consult with them. In case you are interested in psychotherapy or hypnotherapy for the panic attacks and live in FL, IN, or IL, then contact me.
Take care and remain safe. Wish you all the best.

The best medications available for panic disorder and have been around for many years are the Benzodiapines with brand names of Ativan, Xanax, etc. Very effective if taken immediately prior to the panic attack occurring. So effective that this grouping of drugs can be addictive. Of course any medication that really works can be addictive. Avoid Buspar, probably just a placebo effect for this drug. If you want to go to the Antidepressants I have found Paroxetine to be effective in preventing Panic but also causes serious physical dependence and must be taken daily and initially for a minimum of 6 to 9 months before tapering down. Paxil is NOT effective when panic has started or in controlling acute panic attacks.
