Neurologist Questions Neurologist

What is the new FDA approved drug for Alzheimer's?

My friend has Alzheimer's disease and I heard about the new drug. What is the new FDA-approved drug for Alzheimer's?

It’s called aducanumab. It’s for those who are diagnosed with MCI (mild cognitive impairment) due to Alzheimer’s disease. It works by removing beta-amyloid proteins from building up plaques that can delay neurological activity. First is the diagnosis is Alzheimer’s (not any of the other causes of dementia). Second mild cognitive impairment. Third under the advice and monitoring by a neurologist.
