Porcelain veneers when done well are supposed to be just another layer on your teeth and you shouldn't need to avoid anything that you were not already avoiding with your own teeth. However there are exceptions. Depending on your bite, on how much porcelain was added to the length of your teeth, on how much tooth structure is missing to support the porcelain and the retention or bond of the veneer on the teeth, the usual recommendations are to avoid biting hard foods with your front teeth. An example would be biting on an apple. It would be best to ask your own dentist who placed them since it may vary per case and even per tooth on the same patient. The oral hygiene with brushing, flossing and using mouthwash should remain the same.
Dear Reader,

For those with porcelain veneers, you should avoid biting very hard foods, like bones (e.g. ribs), shelling nuts or chewing ice. I would avoid habits like nail biting, pen biting, using your teeth like a tool to bite off string or open bottles (I once had a patient fracture a beautiful veneer trying to open a jar of salsa). I suggest you just use your new veneers to eat most anything and use common sense. If something is hard enough that something is going to pop or break, assume it will be your veneer. If you are mindful, you'll be fine.

Hope this helps,

Porcelain veneers can chip, just like your original teeth. I tell my patients, to not use your teeth as tools, such as trying to open things with your teeth, (bags, containers or biting on paperclip, Etc). I would also suggest not biting/tearing into bagels, taffy, and pulling the food forward. This could pop veneer off teeth. Basically, with common sense, the veneers should last many years.
Ask your dentist who is giving you the laminates.
They probably are not porcelain. All veneers have poor retention so avoid sheer forces on them.
Porcelain veneers are very durable. However, you must remember that they are a cosmetic covering. Avoid biting anything hard (hard pretzels, pencils, finger nails, packages etc...) They can last many, many years.
