Migraines are complex as they involve the liver channel in Eastern medicine. Oftentimes, I notice a residual viral component involved with migraines. Liver is the primary organ that cleanses and purifies the blood. First, finding out the triggers that contribute to migraines are essential. Oftentimes, caffeine, monogram glutamate, artificial chemicals, alcohol, insomnia, acute stress, air pollution, gluten are common triggers. Acupuncture and specific herbs to free up the liver channel and restore healthy liver function is essential. Liver is associated with repressed anger and resentment. Learning to show self-compassion and self-forgiveness to yourself are essential too. Adding cranial-sacral therapy, chiropractry, osteopathy would be excellent too.
Yes, this is something that takes longer to treat and you must be consistent with it.

Acupuncture has been shown to be very effective in the treatment of migraines. There is not one specific type of protocol used in each case, however. The medicine is customized to the patients constitution so there may be a variety of points needled throughout the treatment process. Hope this helped! - Dr. Hallie OGorman

Hi,
We need to find out what is the causes, then treatment plan after that.
Well, you're asking an Acupuncturist this question... I'm certainly going to recommend acupuncture. :). And I've gotten great results helping folks with this very complaint.
I have been treating migraines with acupuncture for 11 years. Most people will have very significant results within three sessions. Some people will not have migraines anymore after the a handful of sessions.
Many of my patients with migraines get plenty of relief from my acupuncture treatments alone. Aroma therapy, botox, imitrex et c. are also very common treatments for migraines. Check with your primary to see what good options can be beneficial for you. - Live Happy, Michael

There are many factors that can contribute to migraines - such as food sensitivity, compromised detox pathway, hormone imbalance, and etc. It is important to get a comprehensive assessment by your physician to figure out what is causing it. Also, acupuncture may help resolve migraines.

It is difficult to answer this question, as migraines can manifest in different ways, and from different causes. Causes can range from food sensitivities to hormonal reactions, and without assessing the cause it will be difficult to come up with treatments. I would first see if you can pinpoint a pattern as to when the migraines happen along with cycles (if female), food intake, and sleep patterns.
Acupuncture is great for migraines. It usually takes a series of treatments, but you can stop a current one and stop future ones.
Acupuncture is an excellent treatment choice for migraine. I typically get very good results for my migraine patients. Be prepared to attend 5-7 treatments initially, but you should notice a decrease in pain severity, number of episodes, or both by the 3rd or 4th treatment.
