Good question. I can’t know the answer to that until we know WHY you have back pain. There are many reasons you could be experiencing this, and your current mattress is most likely NOT the primary cause.
Generally speaking, we recommend a firmer mattress for young people and as we age and joints become painful and easily irritated we recommend moving to a softer mattress or a mattress with a lot of ticking on top.
We suggest a latex mattress by sleep essentials. But if you have back pain you should first get checked by the chiropractor to see if there is a balance in your muscles or a pinched nerve.
Hello and thanks for your question.
I recommend a medium firm mattress with a pillow-top. Medium firm refers to the strength of the springs. The pillowtop will soften the pressure on your hips and shoulder when in the side-lying position.
I recommend a pillow between your knees that can be quite helpful for back or hip pain,
It is important to turn the mattress according to the manufacturer’s recommendation.

Off course, that's a great question the best mattress for side and back sleepers is a hybrid mattress which is between a firm and memory foam mattress.
I'm sorry you have back pain at your age. Some people think a hard mattress is better and some think a soft mattress is better.
You could try putting a small pillow between your knees for side sleeping and make sure your head is in line with your spine, so it's not crunching your neck or lifting your head up too high when you are sleeping.
Some mattress companies offer a money back guarantee. I recommended going to a mattress store, telling them about your problem and asking what they might recommend from their stock. I'm sorry I don't have a better answer for you.

Picking a new mattress is a tricky subject. My wife and I spent a year researching our most recent purchase of a bed. You need to spend at least 15 minutes on each mattress to determine the one that fits your body the best. I could not find one that was hard enough for me. My wife found that the Tempur-Pedic was too hard initially for her. We compromised when we got a comfort pedic bed, half Tempurpedic material half latex. I am able to sleep on this bed on my side without any pain in my shoulders which have been beaten up over time. And this bed has lasted a very long time. So do your research and find the bed that works best for your body, that's my advice.
In my opinion, there are two mattresses that I prefer for side sleepers. Overall performance my favorite side sleeper mattress is Puffy. These mattresses can however be very pricey which is why I always recommend another mattress that has more bang for your buck. The best bang for your buck mattress in my opinion is Nectar Mattresses. Hope this helps!
