Intercostal pain is pain that occurs in your rib areas, and can be caused by many factors including trauma, coughing from bronchitis or pneumonia, inflammation, etc. Your chiropractor will examine you to determine the cause of your discomfort and whether chiropractic treatment is warranted for your condition.

It depends. If it is from an injury it will be felt at the site when stretching or breathing. Other types can be between the shoulder blade and the spine where the ribs connect. At this area, a rib head can become displaced at its articulation with the spine and create discomfort.

Usually, intercostal muscle pain will be felt pretty localized to the rib muscles that are involved and can radiate around the body to the front. Some report pain into the chest too.

Your intercostal muscles are located between your ribs. If the pain is bad enough, it may refer.
Intercostal muscles are muscles that are between your ribs. So, when the intercostal muscles hurt, you will feel the pain between your ribs. There could be other causes of pain in that region as well, so if you are feeling pain there, you should get it checked out.
Intercostal muscle pain will be felt between the ribs. This may mimic chest pain or shoulder blade pain.
