“Which is better breast implants or fat transfer?”

Fat transfer (dpsny.co/fataug) and breast implants (dpsny.co/augment) both can work well for breast augmentation depending on what a patient starts with and what their goals are. Most patients chose implants because of the predictability of the result and the volume of augmentation that can be achieved with implants.

In general, breast implant is the better choice. Fat transfer sounds ideal, but it has a lot of drawbacks:
1. It requires fat donor site(s) depends on how much fat your body has.
2. The less fat you have the more areas have to be involved to get
enough fat for transferring.
3. The more areas need to have liposuction the more you have to
recover from.
4. Fat survival after transfer is not as precisely predictable as one would
expects. Therefore, there is a higher chance of being asymmetrical
or size disappointment.
5. In general, the procedure takes longer to performed.
6. Cost are usually a lot higher for fat transfer.
7. There is also a higher likelihood that you may need a second
operation to get the best result that you want. This could be due to a
percentage of fat not surviving and resulted asymmetry.

Unless you are the group of patients who has been convinced that implant is bad and should avoid them at all costs. Do fat transfer!!!

In my years of practice, 99.5 % of my patients chose implants after I told the above facts.

Many more breast implants are done then fat augmentation of the breasts. The implants are more predictable and take less time for the surgeon and the patient. When you weigh all the pros and cons, I would say that breast implants are preferabl Robert M Dryden, MD FACS

It depends of the anatomy of the breast some patients do not qualify for
fat transfer and they do for breast implants, both are reliable procedures
in appropriate hands.
