Physical Therapist Questions Knee Problems

Why can I not bend my knee without having pain?

I am 24 year old woman and I am suffering from a weird pain in my knee that occurs every time I bend my knees. I am unable to bend my knees even to pick up something from the floor. Bending down straight causes more strain. What should I do?

Regarding your knee pain, I wish I had a simple answer - I do not. One likely fact is that forces in your knee increase with flexion. This could be the result of specific injured structures or an effusion. Are the knees similar in circumference and passive knee flexion? If not, you probably have an effusion that may be resolved with repetitive flexion and extension of the knee through the pain-free range. Then I'm not there to make a sound judgment.

Knee pain are caused due to various conditions like patellar tendinitis, muscle stiffness, etc. You can schedule an appoint with PT and go from there.
There are many possible reasons. Having an evaluation by a PT will narrow down the possibilities. But after about 2 weeks of therapy, you should have some relief.
Go to see your doctor.
Have a physical therapist assess your knee and provide you with treatment options based on evaluation. There are so many things that could be going on in your knee.
