Why do infants need two flu shots?

I have an infant and it is recommended to vaccinate her. I want to know why do infants need two flu shots?

It is only the first season that they get the flu vaccine that they need two shots at least 28 days apart. I liken this to "priming the pump" - they get some immunity to start with the first shot then the 2nd one bumps up their immune response. Theyn every year after, they only need one shot to boost what they've already started plus some immunity to the added on strains.
