Possible dependent on the procedure and expertise of the Bariatric surgeon.
Many patients will gain weight after bariatric surgery. It is important to work with a bariatric physician in addition to your bariatric surgeon to not only facilitate your weight loss but also to keep your weight down. Most patients feel all that they need is the surgery and that will be the complete answer, and that is not accurate. Sometimes a bariatric physician will need to prescribe medications to help keep the metabolism working and the appetite controlled to maintain the progress made.
It can happen but is very unlikely if you have good nutrition habits after your surgery
You have 1.5 to 2 years where the surgery works for you. After that, it is all you relative to your eating habits and exercise. These habits you should have before surgery and continue after surgery, or yes, you will gain the weight back.
Overall success rates are 70-80%. After the initial weight loss, patients may gain 10-20% of their weight back, but studies have shown weight loss can persist for >20 years.
