Will my high school son ever be the same for sports playing?

During a soccer game, my son hurt his knee very badly and needed surgery. He is recovering now with the help of a physical therapist. I am wondering-- will he ever really be able to play sports again? I see his limp and sense his pain and discomfort.

Unfortunately, knee injuries that require surgeries are very common in soccer. Most every athlete, especially at this level, returns to high level sport.
Many of the post-op knees go on to play at the same level as before injury. Have him give it his "best shot."
Have you discussed this with orthopedics? They would be a better judge of the injury and how much progress he has made. Right after surgery a limp and leg weakness is common. Several athletes recover completely.
