Oncologist Questions Breast Cancer

With a history of cancer, how often should I undergo a test to be sure there are no cancer cells in my body?

I have a history of breast cancer and was treated for it in the past, it's now (thankfully) in remission. How many times should I do a test to make sure that there are no cancer cells remaining in my body?

The guidelines currently have no recommendations for imaging or specific blood work. If you develop symptoms, then a scan would be ordered.
There are no specific blood tests for cancer cells in the body. Patient's with breast cancer need to continue regular mammograms and medical follow up.
The answer to that question is dependant on many things. If the cancer was localized to your breast and no lymph nodes or other organs were involved you can be relatively assured that your cancer is cured. But the best person to answer that question is your Oncologist. He or She will know the extent of your disease and which areas of your body needs careful attention and will advise you based on their knowledge of your disease.
You should visit your Oncologist every 6 months and undergo whatever testing he or she recommends.
