Acupuncture and depression?

I'm 30 years old and I've been dealing with depression for a year. My friend actually suggested to me to try acupuncture. How does acupuncture work for this?

Acupuncture with herbs, and sometimes massage, can treat and help relieve stress, anxieties and depression. I suggest you try it.
Yes. I encourage you to book a session with your practitioner of choice to get help with relief.
I couldn't tell you how it works... just that it does, and very well. It works better if the patient is not medicated as medications cause toxicity.
You may be depressed because certain systems are off in the body. Acupuncture helps to bring your body back into balance therefore improving your mood. We also have natural herbal remedies that would support you at home.
Hello and thank you for your question! Acupuncture is great for mental emotional health, including alleviating symptoms of depression. Acupuncture stimulates the body to heal itself, while also regulating the endocrine and nervous systems.
A lot of depression is because you can’t find the real reason, so doctors analyzing the condition is very important. Find the right doctor, it's very important.
Acupuncture regulates your mood-related hormones. Yes, depression and or anxiety. However, it needs a series of treatment from 6-10 depending on severity.
Yes, acupuncture does help with depression along with herbs to balance your chemistry.
First, a general checkup of symptoms and history leading up to the depression, and what's happening now. Many attitudes and depressed feelings are caused by chemical imbalances, and vice-versa. If your system is unbalanced, acupuncture can help to put it back into balance. Stress may be a factor, along with frustration - and this too can be relieved. Try it - you have nothing to lose!
Good luck.

Once we determine the pattern of disharmony we can correct the imbalance. With stimulation of points on the body it helps encourage energy flow more smoothly.
Yes it definitely does, but the Acupuncturist may also be able to guide you in other aspects of your life that could exacerbating the issue, such as diet and exercise.
The acupuncturist would need to make a differential diagnosis on the root cause of your depression. I cannot say how yours in particular would work, because I have not personally diagnosed you. The practitioner will then help balance out the body systems that are involved from a Chinese medical point-of-view. Our medicine is not the same as western medicine i.e. we do not have a "one treatment fixes everyone" mindset, we treat according to an individuals personal situation.

Go find a licensed acupuncturist in your area (an L.Ac) and be sure they have some experience on depression and be sure it's one you feel comfortable with. Keep in mind that you can go find another practitioner if your first choice doesn't work out very well. Just like any other medical practice or public service, some people have a better fit with you than others do.

Good luck.
According to Oriental Medicine all disease is based on blood flow. What happened if the blood flow is inadequate? A kink in a hose will prevent it from giving water to a plant. Acupuncture allows for the reintroduction of blood to areas of the body where there is a lack of circulation and removes blockages that obstruct its flow.
Acupuncture can be very effective in treating depression and we do so by treating why you are suffering from depression. This is called a root condition and is understood as imbalance within the internal organs and/or a disruption in the flow of your energy. Acupuncture works to correct the imbalances and/or flow, thereby alleviating the symptoms of depression.
Acupuncture treatment adjusts your internal system.
How acupuncture works in depression is still an open question. We have several studies showing acupuncture is as effective as prozac in the treatment of mild to moderate depression. Some studies appear to show acupuncture having a regulatory effect on serotonin along with several other neurotransmitters. I work a lot with depression and anxiety patients. They usually get very good results without the cost or side effects of the standard medications. If you're not in CA, I'd suggest you start with NCCAOM.org's "Find a Practitioner" to look up some acupuncturists near you.
By solving the root or cause of your depression. It can stem from old traumas, and the beauty of acupuncture is to help patients process them.
Depression is not a problem that we can just ignore. Acupuncture can help with this problem. You should make an appointment to investigate what is going on and start treatment at once.

Be well, be confident, we can help.
There are many causes of depression, and there are just as many ways to treat it, so I can't tell you how it works for this. I CAN tell you that anxiety and depression are my favorite things to treat because acupuncture works SO WELL for them. So I would suggest calling around to practitioners in your area, finding out if they've treated it successfully in the past, and then plan on going for a series of treatments. You will be so glad that you did!
Acupuncture works incredibly well for depression! By regulating the gallbladder and San jiao meridians within the body along with an auricular point on your dominant side we are often able to get amazing results!
