Do acupuncture shoes help with heel pain?

I wake up to a lot of pain in my heels and have been considering buying acupuncture shoes. Will these really help in treating my heel pain?

Hello, Thank you for your question. We you have to evaluate you and take foot x-rays if needed. Please call our office 973-817-9577 or on our portal drtotten.com for an appointment.
Thank you
Not all heel pain has the same cause. Without a full work up and X-ray evaluation I wouldn't be able to tell you if acupuncture shoes would help. When it first starts rest, ice, elevation and compression helps. After several weeks plantar fascia stretches and arch elevation can alleviate the pain if the plantar fascia is the cause of the pain. Plantar fasciitis or Heel Spur Syndrome is a common cause for heel pain but not the only cause for heel pain.
There are multiple potential causes for your heel pain(s). I do not believe that acupuncture shoes will resolve your pain(s). Consult with a Board Certified Podiatric Surgeon who is Board Certified by the American Board of Foot & Ankle Surgeons.
Unlikely
yes
Hi,

Not sure if they would help, but you should ice and massage bottom of your feet heel area with frozen water bottle, and wear supportive shoes. Stretching the achilles tendon as well as the plantar fascia will help with the pain. Custom orthotics are another way to help with this matter to reoccur. Physical therapy and heel injections are also an option.
You can try them but usually the heel pain is from plantar fasciitis and it needs to be treated by a podiatrist. Heel pain is known to linger for a long time.
Yes, Trigger points in the muscles in your feet can be activated with accupressure. This wil increase blood flow and help to ease and repair tissues.
I have never heard of acupuncture shoes. Start stretching your calves before you get of bed in the morning. Roll frozen water bottle up and down the arch for 15 min at a time. Good supportive shoe gear is also important.
Yes, it may very well help. However, I am more excited about the use of custom made orthotics for long-term relief.
Good research may be hard to find but a valid study on the device would be helpful. Many holistic treatments help people but many do not. I personally have not heard of these shoes. Heel pain when it’s worse in the morning or after rest know as post static dyskinesia pain upon motion after rest is usually associated with inflammation. In the heel area plantar fasciitis as a differential diagnosis. Clinical evaluation by a podiatrist would be helpful.
It's hard to say if these will help. Professional acupuncture acts to block the pain meridians in your body, electrical junction boxes, thus relieving pain. It's difficult to predict if the shoes can achieve a similar result.
Heel pain can have multiple causes. I recommend evaluation by a foot and ankle specialist (podiatrist) to determine the cause of the heel pain and then determine if the acupuncture shoes are appropriate
To be honest, I am not too familiar with the shoes. I have had some patients try them; some say it helps, others are back in my office for injections or other treatments.
There is evidence from other patients responses that acupuncture can in fact help with foot pain. The etiology of the heel pain should be identified first as trauma related conditions will require other treatments.
As a foot specialist, the symptoms are related plantar fascia irritation .I am suggesting that you see a Podiatrist or purchase a heel support off loading heel cup insole.
It is likely that this will not relieve the pain but will cost you money that might be better used for evaluation and treatment. In the interim start by icing and stretching and avoiding barefoot walking.
When you wake up with heel pain, it is likely plantar fasciitis. A proper athletic shoe with good arch supports would be better than acupuncture shoes. This condition requires stretching, anti inflammatory agents and proper support. An XRay to confirm there is not a fracture is also beneficial
There is no evidence that acupuncture shoes help treat heal pain. You should be evaluated by a podiatrist.
As I tell my patients, you can try whatever you would like, and who knows? For some people weird, gimmicky things like Acupuncture Shoes my make you feel better. But, honestly, I do not think so. The key to treating heel pain, which is usually caused by Plantar Fasciitis, is supporting the medial arch (orthotics or flip flops/shoes with build in arch support), Stretching and icing, and anti-inflammatory treatments.
