Pediatrician Questions Overweight

When should I be alarmed about my child being obese?

My son is 4 years old and his weight is slightly more than the range specified in his growth chart. Me and my husband are both overweight and I am worried if my son will also be overweight? Should we monitor his food more strictly? How?

Overweight and obesity is a serious problem in our country, which may lead to what we call NCDs, which means non-communicable disorders. These include hypertension, heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes and vascular disorders. Breastfeeding a baby for 9-12 months or longer frequently prevents overweight and obesity. However you may be able to control excessive by changing his diet, giving him more fruits and vegetables, less fatty foods and red meat.
