Ear-Nose and Throat Doctor (ENT) Questions Throat infection

Are antibiotics required to treat a throat infection?

I suspect I have an infection in my throat--there are some white patches in the back. Do you think antibiotics may be required to treat it?

Hello,

It is possible that antibiotics may be needed. Would suggest visiting an ENT Specialist.

Hello,

That’s a question that is difficult to answer without a physical exam, and sometimes even a culture swab to see what is growing the throat. Homeopathic treatments that can help are half strength hydrogen peroxide mouth rinse and gargle or just warm salt water mouth rinse and gargle. But realistically, you need to see a doctor in person to make the decision for antibiotics.
This still could be a type of initial viral syndrome and antibiotics are not indicated for such. If the patches persist after 5 days and symptoms do not improve, antibiotic may be considered after culture techniques.
“White patches” can be caused by a number of conditions. I suggest you have it professionally evaluated. Antibiotics may or may not be appropriate.
Usually yes but need to see to r/o other issues
Only if you have a bacteria that is considered dangerous like strep, Most dorethroats ate viral and need no antibiotics. Visit your Dr and have a strep test done
Not most, as 80%+ throat infections are viral in origin.
