Radiologist Questions Prostate scan

Are 4-D prostate scans necessary?

I'm 55 years old, and my doctors is recommending me that I should get a 4-D prostate scan after he finished my exam. Why would this be necessary?

No, they are a sales gimmick.
That depends on the situation. $-D imaging would be useful if there is a suspicion of prostate cancer and imaging would be useful in diagnosis or planning treatment. Findings such as an elevated PSA or nodule on physical exam might prompt such a study.
At this point, however, it should not be used as a screening study.
