Are UTIs genetic?

My 8 year old son has a UTI and my husband had them as a child. Are UTIs genetic?

UTI is not genetic. Vesicoureteral reflux can result in UTI in much younger ages and can have recurrent UTI also, and that can run in families. Please check with your pediatrician.
They are not genetic usually, but there may be a congenital (present at birth) reason that he has one. He needs to be seen by a urologist to see if there is a problem.
Yes, UTI could be genetic. Some genes that are responsible for immunity and response to infection could have been transferred from your husband to your son and make him more prone to UTI infections.
Hello, and thanks for your question,

In general, urinary tract infections are not genetic, but there may be some underlying factors that are such as narrow drainage tubes for urinary drainage that leads to retained fluid and bacteria.

No but have a urologist check him out
