Orthopaedic Surgeon Questions Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Are there any exercises I can do to prevent carpal tunnel syndrome?

I work at a computer 8 hours a day, and I am beginning to feel some little twinges in my wrists. I don't want to get carpal tunnel syndrome. Are there any exercises I can do so that I don't get carpal tunnel?

No, but you can wear a splint.
Your symptoms described very briefly suggest you do not have carpal tunnel compression syndrome. Normal hand strengthening exercises using a hand Spring device from Big 5 could help.
Wrist curls, hand squeezes, rigid wrist splint to wear for sleeping only, ibuprofen
Hi there,

Nothing specific, but general ergonomic health is the key. Take frequent breaks. Stretch your hands and your wrists at least once an hour. Have the appropriate positioning for your keyboard your mouse and your monitor. Eat a healthy diet and exercise frequently.

More likely, if you feel "twinges" in your wrists, this represents tendinitis or overuse, as opposed to carpal tunnel syndrome. Carpal tunnel syndrome results in numbness and tingling in your fingers. In either case, you should try gentle stretching, breaks from the computer, and a proper ergonomic set up. If this does not help, then I would recommend you consult a physician.
