Infectious Disease Specialist (Pediatric) Questions Mononucleosis

Are there any home remedies for mononucleosis?

My son is only 3 year old, and he has mononucleosis. I think he had gotten this infection from his preschool. Our doctor says we can treat this mostly at home but right now he has a high fever. We've given him Kid's Motrin to have it go down. But are there home remedies that we can use?

At times steroids are used to treat Infectious Mononucleosis otherwise Motrin or Tylenol for fever and body aches.
Plenty of fluids, acetaminophen, and/or NSAIDS (like children's Motrin/ibuprofen) can help prevent dehydration and reduce fever, aches/pains, and sore throat. The thing to remember is that with good supportive care at home, your child will get over this very common viral disease and be as good as new in a few days or weeks!

This is viral and no antibiotic treatment will help. You can give maalox and benadryl liquid mixed 1:1 about a tsp every 4 hours to make his throat feel better. Make sure he stays hydrated and you can also give tylenol for the fever
