Radiologist Questions Parkinson's Disease

Are there any imaging tests for Parkinson's disease?

My father was experiencing tremors in his hands. We took him to his doctor, who is now referring him to a neurologist because he believes that it could be Parkinson's disease. We noticed this tremor a while ago, along with other symptoms, so we definitely think it's possible. Would there be any tests used to detect the disorder, though? Like an MRI, or PET scan?

No, however, usually MRI brain is ordered to exclude other etiologies.
Hello,

A DaTscan may be of help in your fathers case. This is a nuclear medicine test which can be helpful to evaluate patients with early Parkinson’s disease.
