Pediatrician Questions Chickenpox

How can I avoid my son from getting scarring with chickenpox?

My son has developed the chickenpox and he is itching himself a lot, even after I put the ointment on him. I'm afraid that this will cause him to have scarring along his skin. What should I do to prevent this?

You may give benadryl orally for itching, cut his fingernails back, and make sure he is cool.
You can use calamine lotion which is calming to skin. You should ask your doctor if you can use Benadryl depending on the age of patient or any other medicine to reduce the itching.
Put socks on his hands so he can’t scratch himself. Benadryl use only on the advice of a pediatrician on older children. It makes them sleepy.
