Pediatrician Questions Autism

Can autism raise the risk of PTSD?

My son was recently diagnosed with autism, at 5 years old, and I'm just worried about the effect this will disease will have on his mental health in the future. He's at risk for other mental disorders, like PTSD?

Children with ASD are at higher risk of having other comorbidities like:

●Hyperactivity, inattention, and impulsivity

●Aggression, outbursts, and self-injury

●Anxiety

●Obsessive-compulsive behaviors, rigidity, and repetitive behaviors

●Depressive symptoms

●Sleep dysfunction
No.
Children with autism do have increased mental disorders like ADHD depression dyslexia but not PTSD over the regular population.
