Can decay under a crown be fixed?

I am a 35 year old male. I want to know if decay under a crown can be fixed?

If we can get at it on the outside or inside and it does not go too far under the gum line we can place a filling. If under the gum-line and too close or into the area of bone the tooth must be extracted.
I have done this many times over the years. It can not be done when there is not good access to the decay where the dentist can be sure all the decay is removed. The better alternative is always replacement of the crown.
Hi,

It depends how bad the damage of the tooth structure of the tooth is. Sometimes the crown can be replaced, sometimes the tooth needs to be extracted.
It depends on where the decay is at. If it is well below the junction where the tooth and crown come together, it is better to replace the crown. If the decay is right at the junction of the crown and the tooth, it can be "patched" as a stop gap solution. It is always best to make a new crown for maximum longevity.
Unfortunately, the only way it can be fixed properly is to remove the crown and then the decay and place a new crown.
