Hepatologist Questions Liver damage

Can I reverse my liver damage?

I used to drink alcohol a lot when I was younger, but now I'm worried about my liver's health in general because of it. I know alcohol could have serious effects on my liver, and I've now lowered my alcohol consumption to just an occasional beer now and then. Is this enough to reverse any liver damage I may have from drinking?

Best solution is stop alcohol use all together especially if your liver function tests are high. Yes, liver regenerates well unless it has become cirrhotic and fibrosis. You can consume occasional beer once liver enzymes have been normalized.
If you do not already have CIRRHOSIS (a chronic liver disease), stopping ALL alcohol will likely improve your liver function.
It all depends how much you drank when you were young. One of the better tests to determine scarring (cirrhosis), is a Fibroscan. It’s a noninvasive vibrational device that can tell if the liver is flexible or stiff and cirrhotic. If any cirrhosis was detected, I would avoid alcohol completely, get the proper vaccinations against hep A and B and further eval. Start with your primary care physician and show him or her my response.

It is possible to reverse liver damage from alcohol use. However, your question is not specific enough as to whether or not, and to what extent you have liver damage from drinking. Short answer: yes, it is possible to reverse liver damage from alcohol.
Liver can recover after quitting drinking, but only a physician in person can assess.
