Chiropractor Questions Pregnancy

Can pregnant women go see a chiropractor?

I know that I have to be extra careful with everything that I do because I am pregnant, but my back has been killing me. I can barely stand up straight. Can pregnant women go see a chiropractor?

Pregnancy related back pain is very common and responds very well to manipulation. It is safe and effective up through delivery.
Absolutely. I always recommend care to pregnant patients. It can be helpful for the mother and the soon to be newborn.
Absolutely! Chiropractic can be incredibly helpful during pregnancy. The treatments will likely be more gentle and specific for the point in your pregnancy that you are in. Personally, I worked on my wife throughout her pregnancy, including during labor (at her request, of course)!
Absolutely! We see many pregnant women in our office, particularly for lower back pain. In order to keep you and your unborn child safe, we modify our adjustment and avoid using certain therapies in the office.
Absolutely!! I have helped many woman through pregnancy. Remember, chiro is about the nervous system, and you're making a baby so you bet ya!!!
Yes.
Absolutely! Especially your 7-8-9th month. Perfectly safe! You’ll be thanking me later
Hello,

Most definitely. I treated my wife who was high risk with all three of our children. Her pain throughout each pregnancy was minimal with more effective labor and delivery. Our children were in delivery position by weeks 16-18. In addition to adjusting my wife, all three of our children have been regularly adjusted since birth. A well maintained spine from a young age helps a developing nervous system function better.

Absolutely, in fact I work with pregnant women every day
Pregnant patients are one of the greatest joys of being a chiropractor. Most patients when they reach the second trimester are experiencing slight discomfort to moderate back pain. Chiropractic adjustments provide relief from pain, but also support the mother to carry the baby well, to be relaxed and confident going into the third trimester. In the final three months of pregnancy some patients require more frequent adjustments especially if they needed chiropractic care before they got pregnant. In addition, I have seen regular adjustments help with conception and very much after the baby is born. Do not forget to have your newborn checked for subluxations as they often cause constipation, difficulty latching on, and colic.

Absolutely! Most Chiropractors have special tables or pillows to accommodate the patient's growing belly.
Yes, you can. I would go to the ICPA4kids.com website and search for a Webster certified chiropractor near you. They have been trained in adjusting pregnant women.
Great question. Back pain during pregnancy is very common and you're not able to take any medications so sometimes pregnant women really suffer. Chiropractors have been treating pregnant women for over one hundred years safely and effectively. In my practice, it is one of our main specialties as we shared space with a practice of midwives for seven years. We pride ourselves in helping pregnant women get relief and get it fast.
I hope this was helpful.

Generally, the answer is yes. Over the years, I have taken care of many pregnant women - some up to the day of delivery, with great results.
Yes
Your question and dilemma is very pertinent and any Chiropractor treating pregnant women must be very gentle.
Generally speaking, Chiropractic as a whole has been shown to help reduce pain during pregnancy, make delivery go more smoothly with less pain or complications, and help speed recovery times. After all, everything is controlled by the nerves. Most chiropractic schools teach adjusting for pregnancy and postpartum, as well as for newborns. 95.5% of children are born with a spinal misalignment that can effect nerve function.

Make sure you find a D.C. who's comfortable with you and whatever troubles you are having, even if they are not related to the pregnancy.
Hi, absolutely! Chiropractic has been shown to help reduce labor pains as well as help with low back pain. There are certain chiropractors who are trained specifically to adjust pregnant moms! Check out Webster certified chiropractors.
