Musculoskeletal Oncology Questions Radiation Therapy

Can radiation therapy cause lung issues?

I'm undergoing radiation therapy for my bone cancer and I noticed that I have been experiencing a dry cough. Sometimes a low grade fever as well. Could this be from the radiation therapy?

If treatment in the chest area and involves large area and combined chemotherapy such as Bleomycin or Vemza
If lung tissue was involved in the radiation field, a lung inflammation may result, which may be severe, so you should contact your radiation oncologist
Pulmonary tissue is extremely sensitive to radiation and lung injury and congestion are very common sequella of moderate or high dose radiation. A discussion with a knowledgeable radiation oncologist would give you more information if you give her a summary of doses delivered to lung tissue near the target.
