Can strep throat go away on its own?

I am a 26-year-old male who was diagnosed with strep throat. Can strep throat go away on its own?

It is "possible" that it can, but if it does not, the consequences are very serious, and it's so easily treated, so why risk it?
Sore throats are not necessarily strep throat. Diagnosed strep throat should always be treated with the full coarse of antibiotic to avoid potentially serious complications.
It resolves without treatment, but antibiotics prevent serious sequelae.
