Can they put you to sleep for dental implants?

I am a 38 year old male. I want to know if they can put you to sleep for dental implants?

Yes. General and intravenous anesthesia can be used for any procedure performed by an oral surgeon. Most of these procedures can be office based.
yes
Some practitioners are certified for sedation, but not all.
Yes!
Of course! Just find someone who is qualified to do so.

Dr Jensen
Yes. It is done frequently.

Yes, they can. The doctor has to be trained in sleep anesthesia. Most of the time that is done by oral surgeons, but there are some general dentists that have their training, too.

Almost all dental surgeries are done with local anesthesia. If you are nervous, I suggest you consult your dentist for an IV sedation option.
Yes, they can.
Hello,

This is a very good question. The simple answer is that you can be put to sleep for just about any dental procedure. This does not mean that it is a good idea or that you can find someone to put you to sleep for any dental procedure. There are a few factors to take into account while considering to be put to sleep for a dental procedure. First thing is a persons anxiety. How anxious is the patient and can it be alleviated another way. Conscious sedation has become popular as an alternative to being put to sleep. The Second thing to consider is how invasive is the dental procedure. Extracting (removing) wisdom teeth is an evasive procedure and most people like to have that done with no recollection of it at all. When an implant is put in there is a very low expectation of pain during or after the procedure. Most people are very surprised by this. However, when an implant is coupled with the extraction of a tooth (to save time) this is an area where the procedure can be invasive and have some discomfort afterward. If this is the case, it would be best to talk to the doctor doing the procedure about the options available.
Hope this helps.

My best to you!

Yes absolutely- there are several levels of sedation that can be used during implants- you can have IV sedation which you are asleep, or nitrous oxide sedation more commonly known as ‘laughing gas’ where you are conscious but more relaxed during the procedure.
