Can you damage your ears by going to concerts?

I am an 18 year old male and I love concerts. Can you damage your ears by going to concerts?

Sound levels at concerts can definitely exceed what are considered safe volumes to listen to. Depending on how long you are exposed to the sound, and how loud the sound is, it does have the potential to damage your hearing. If you have a smart phone, try downloading the NIOSH Sound Level Meter (SLM) app. You can use this app to measure how loud the sound is. Regular and prolonged exposure to sounds at 85 dB(A) are considered potentially hazardous (that's if you're listening for about 8 hours). The louder the noise, the less time you can be exposed to it before it is considered hazardous.
Yes. Repeated noise exposure at that level is permanently damaging to the hearing organ. Wear hearing protection. If you like going a lot, I'd suggest having a custom pair made. They'd be no more than $200 and they'll fit custom to your ears. You can wash them, and they'll last years. I've been using mine for 8 or 9 years. You can see an audiologist who will make a mold of your ear and send them out to be manufactured any color/design you want. Sent from my Verizon, Samsung Galaxy smartphone
