Pediatrician Questions Feeding baby

My 20 month old eats very little. Should I try to change his eating habits or what should I do?

My baby is 20 months old and is a very fussy eater. What can I do to boost his appetite? And what should I avoid doing? What common mistakes do parents make with this?

If he looks well and is very active, no pallor noted, then you need not worry. If the parents are below average in height, extra feeds will cause him to be obese.
Is the baby gaining weight ok? They only gain about 5 lb from 1-2 years old. If weight gain is fine, I would not be concerned. I would offer good food choices and only except them to eat one meal a day and small snacks in between ( a hand full of cereal). If they are not gaining further workup is needed. A lot of parents get overly concerned if they don't eat one meal and make meal time a struggle. This causes overeating.
Hi,

Since growth of the baby is slowing down, a decrease in appetite is normal. Go ahead and try to feed him small amounts of meat and vegetables.
Thank you.

I would do absolutely nothing. He’s probably eating more than you think.
