Councelor/Therapist Questions ADHD

Can counselling help an adult with ADHD?

My boyfriend is 24 years old and has had ADHD since childhood. As he is growing up, his condition seems to be worsening. Will counselling help?

Definitely, take him to a good psychiatrist and participate in sessions weekly, then after 6 months if he has improved and if psychiatrist says so you can decrease sessions
Do you feel better when you talk to a trained trusted person? If yes, then both you and your boyfriend will find help talking with a well trained ADHD trained counselor. There are coping mechanisms that can help create new processes to overcome learned unhelpful habits.
Hi,

Thank you for your question. Yes, counseling can help your boyfriend learn strategies to cope with ADHD. There is a lot he can do to practice maintaining his attention and learn concentration skills. The counselor may also recommend medication support.
